Time To Go Now represented the 15th episode of Season 6 of the General Electric Theatre anthology series, which originated on American radio in 1953.
The television adaptation, produced by MCA-TV/Revue, commenced in February 1953 and aired in the United States every Sunday evening at 9:00 pm EST on KRCG-TV Channel 13. Each of the approximately 209 television episodes was an adaptation of a novel, short story, play, film, or magazine fiction.
On September 26, 1954, Ronald Reagan made his debut as the sole host of the series. General Electric introduced a host to ensure continuity within the anthology format.
Although it was broadcast exclusively in the United States, ‘Time To Go Now’ was filmed entirely on location in Great Britain with an all-British cast, including Pat Crowley, Finlay Currie and Jean Caddell. Unfortunately, many episodes have been lost to time, along with their plot notes. This review encompasses all the information and images that we have managed to compile given the described limitations.
The Story
The narrative unfolds as a supernatural romance set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.
The story follows Lady Beth of Arbist (Jeannie Carson), a young woman on the verge of marriage to Jamie (John Cairney), the Laird.of Castle Creigh in the Scottish Highlands.
On All Hallows’ Eve, the superstitious crofters in the area gather to observe an ancient rite where an engaged girl looks into an aged silver mirror at the top of a castle tower.According to legend, this mirror reveals to a woman the reflection of her one true love.
As Beth ascends the stairs of a castle tower and stands before the mirror, rather than seeing her betrothed, sees something that dramatically alters the trajectory of her future and transforms her entire existence, as the image is that of another handsome young man, Raymond DeTresk (Peter Wyngarde).
